Mid aPRiL wEeKeNd

Hei people! I got updates about my weekend… since it’s holly week… and I have one week off from work, I always spend the whole night chatting. I slept when the sun rises and I woke up around noon time. but hey… it’s worth it man! Hahaha…

I wanna thank this guy (yg suka sok imut), his name is Mercy, but I call him Ecy for short. Just like Alwi, he is one of my closest chatmates. I knew Ecy from Alwi, and I knew Alwi from Bima, and I knew Bima out of nowhere, when I randomly sent questionnaires to the webmasters of some Indonesian online news websites. Anyways, just in a short period of time after I knew Ecy, I found out that Emil, an Alumni of PPMIP and De La Salle University turned out to be his officemate in PPA Consultants. It’s a small world after all. So… the point is that, I wanna thank ecy for helping me out with the contact numbers of the Indonesian filmmakers, that I would probably interview in gathering data for my thesis. Ecy’s friend, Dessy, used to work in Metro TV as a reporter and I think she’s now in advertising. Dessy was the one who supplied me with the database. I would also like to thank Dessy for giving the contacts of Nia Dinata, Christine Hakim, Riri Riza, Mira Lesmana, Lola Amaria. And One of my friends, Arya, from Trisakti also contribute in giving me the contact of Komang (comedian, DPR), and Rieke D. Pitaloka. And Danta, a new member of PPMIP, gave me the contact of Garin Nugroho and an Indonesian feminist. So… thanks to all of u… this means so much to me. Well actually I’m not going to contact them that soon, because I still have to get through the comprehensive exam and thesis proposal defense. I haven’t even chosen what films to analyze. I just wanna gather the database sooner so that I wouldn’t have to rush when the time comes.

Thursday, April 13th, Andre came in the afternoon. He wanted to pass his tuition fee for me to be the one to pay it for the coming term. He left for Indonesia last Friday. I was thinking of going back to Indonesia probably by the end of this year, using Air Asia… it’s cheaper and I could travel to Kuala Lumpur and Thailand for few days. That would be a great plan! I’ll just wait for Andre’s testimonial if his trip turns successful or otherwise ;p

In the evening, I went out with Sandhi for a short while. I went out to print a picture of a woman dancing a Balinese dance, Pendet. I’m going to use that as a pattern for my painting. Anis and I then cooked for dinner, damn good! Sundanese style! Don’t care if others don’t like it that much… but I like it to death hehehe…

Friday evening, April 14th… My friends came over… JJ, Sandhi, Shabun, and Crispy. We ordered Wendys, I ordered side salad, chili rice and iced tea, and I finished it in no time. While the guys were busy playing cards, I was thinking of getting started with my painting. Well… I was able to make it half done. I’ll finish it soon…

Saturday, April 15th, I stayed home… I woke up 5 pm! damn! I lost all those precious time!!! Then… the revenge comes to play the part. I went out with Anis and JJ. Thought Sandhi and Shabun were still in Plaza Fair for the band practice. They were already out when we arrived. Sooo… we went to Sisval, and boom!!!
All people followed us… so I was there, Anis, JJ, Sandhi, Shabun, Wandy, Ido, Kemal, Tyo, Aang, Seto, Crispy, Aya and Iedo. Most girls were in the room, we watched 3 Indo films. Vina Bilang Cinta, Virgin and Dealova. I’ve actually watched Vina Bilang Cinta once, but I don’t mind watching it for the second time, I like the story and I love Rachel Maryam in that movie. I just looove her style. Virgin, yes… I like the plot, even though that the movie was kinda vulgar, in terms of the script and gestures. but hey… sometimes that’s reality. I have many things in mind to critique on the movie. But I’ll discuss that in my thesis. Dealova? Hmmm sorry… but I don’t seem to like it. I even left the movie and went to North Park. I haven’t actually seen the whole movie, but I’ll try, next time. That night, I ate Mc Donald’s rice + fish fillet + coke and few hours later I ordered North Park’s NS9, noodle- nanking beef + shrimp dumpling. Yummy… it tasted like mie pangsit. Went home around 5 in the morning.

Sunday, April 16th, I woke up noon, went online for quite a while. Then went to Cartimart, to buy the food for my lovely lovebirds. And guess what… here is the interesting part. I took a taxi going to Cartimart, told the taxi driver to take me to the block where the animal shops are. I asked him if he could wait for me, I’ll just buy the food for my lovebirds, and then take me back home. Then he said, “do you have love birds?” I answered “yes”. He said he has 4, and I said “same, me too”. He said the colors are a pair of blue and another is green, and I said “mine too”. He said he has a parrot, I said “ how much did u buy it for? I’ve asked in Cartimart and it’s way too expensive: P15.000.”. He said, he got it from his province, Ilocos, I said, “can I buy the bird? How much?”. He doesn’t want to sell it! Hahahaha… then I asked him, “do you know anywhere I could buy a monkey?”. He then immediately said that, there are lots in his province. I was really really really excited, and asked how much would a baby monkey cost? He said “around P5000”. Not bad man, I agreed!!! I exchanged phone numbers with him. because he would get one for me. I asked him if the monkeys are endangered species, and he said “No”. I should believe him, because I really want to own a monkey. I still want to negotiate the price, though. He is kind enough, and oh! he found out that I’m not a Filipina, because of my slang Tagalog. It’s either people think I’m a balikbayan, coming from the US, or I’m a Visayan hahaha… anyways, I’ll be waiting for his text message one of these days.

Had a dance practice as usual. Had a meeting right after, because Niar wanted to give us briefing regarding our up coming trip to Santiago City, Isabela. Heris and Sendria were kind enough to host a dinner in their house @ Makati Prime Tower, room 900, Kalayaan Avenue. Me, Anis, JJ, Sandhi, Seto, Takur, Lalai, Crispy, Danta and the owner of the house, Heris and Sendria. Soto Ayam and Perkedel! Extralicious!!! Too bad they are going back home to Indo this coming Thursday. Hope we can meet again in the near future. Take Care guys...

And oh! I really like this quote, sent via sms by one of my friends:
"Faling down doesn't make a person a failure! But staying down does... so always remember that no one is perfect! And when you fall so hard... Just bounce back higher!!!" I always love words of encouragement. I'll keep that in Mind =)

MuSic 21 PlaZa aNd IcE AgE 2: The Meltdown

Up: Clockwise- Nelmer, Niar, Reyda, Nancy, Shabun, Tyo, Kemal, Aang, Andre, Sari
Bottom: Andre, Sari & Sandhi

Me, singing...

Monday, April 10th evening, I was just planning to spend time chatting in YM with my “friendly friends”. But suddenly @ around 11.30pm, Sandhi asked me out to Malate, along with Niar, and her friend, Nelmer. Said the others are going to be there too. Hmm... good idea, I’ve been waiting to go out with some friends anytime this week, because I have one week holiday from work, my boss is now in Japan and she’ll be back Monday, April 17th. It’s also holly week, so the office is closed. Then they came to my house to fetch me, and we headed towards Malate. Sandhi said that some peeps were also there, and that we’ll join their gimmick. And guess what ladies and gentlemen??!! as soon as we arrived, they had already left, they are all on their way home. Damn, thought it wouldn’t be that fun if we were only 4. But I was too excited to go just anywhere rather than to go home. (Hello? who would want to go home?). so we decided to go to Music 21 Plaza, karaoke bar somewhere in Jupiter st., Makati. On our way there, Sandhi and I were convincing the others to join. And luckily, they followed us. We were 11, me, Sandhi, Niar, Nelmer, Andre, Aang, Kemal, Tyo, Shabun, Nancy and Reyda. Sure we had fun, we stayed like 1 am until 4 am. I got to practice singing.. uhm… this might be my other undiscovered hobby else than… you know… dancing, etc.

Tuesday, April 12th, I made an article for Swara Pendidikan (A bulletin of the Attaché of Education and Cultural Affairs, Indonesian Embassy in Manila). I have submitted the article thru email to Niar of Atdiknas. I hope that I can be a permanent contributor for the bulletin. For January to March edition, I wrote about online journal or blog. Over my article, I am convincing people to start blogging. Because I am personally gaining more satisfactions through writing about my daily lives in my blog. Blogging is also a means of communication to share our feelings or opinions to others, and that others can react to it. On the next edition, I want to contribute writing about Leadership Skill and Career Building seminar. I can see that this is a great chance to develop my writing skills, a stepping stone to be a good writer or maybe… a journalist.

In the evening, Sandhi fetched me @ around 10 pm and we watched Ice age 2: The Meltdown along with Sendria and Heris…had Burger King for midnight dinner. I bought whopper jr. kid meal to get the nutty scrat toy hehehe... After we wached the movie, we played in Timezone for a while, and on the way home, we were discussing about plans to go to Market Market in Fort Bonifacio and hang out in Heris and Sendria’s place, sometime this coming weekend. I’m planning to ask Sendria to teach me cook some of her best recipes. I found Heris and Sendria very nice. Oh by the way, Sendria and Heris came here to the Philippines, for Heris’s eyes treatment. Aight then, till we meet again.

Leadership Skill and Career Building Seminar

At last, after what we’ve worked for so hard, the past few weeks turned in to a reality. PPMIP (Indonesian Students Association in the Philippines) Makati and Manila Chapter presented the Leadership Skill and Career Building seminar yesterday, Sunday, April 9 2006 @ the Indonesian Embassy in Manila. The head Coordinator of the seminar was Aditya Prakoso (Tyo). The committee consisted of 20 of us, a coalition of Makati and Manila chapter members. I, myself was assigned to be the public relation officer of the seminar. I guess that’s what a communication student does.

Leadership skill and Career Building seminar Committees

The speakers of the seminars were:
- Hendy Widjaja, of Asian Development Bank, he discussed about Career Management
- Nicasio F. Rollan III, of Ateneo de Manila Graduate School of Business, he discussed about Leadership
- Alex Trajano, of De La Salle University, he discussed about Entrepreneurship
- Cora Llamas, of JobsDB, she discussed about career opportunities

Bottom: Me and PPMIP Baguio

The seminar was attended by Prof. Irsan Tandjung, the Ambassador of Indonesia for the republic of the Philippines. Mr. Mahmudin, the Attaché of Education and Cultural Affairs of Indonesian Embassy and around 100+ participants also joined the seminar. The participants consist of mainly Indonesian Students from all PPMIP chapters, namely: Makati, Manila, Quezon City, Tagaytay, Silang, Los Banos, and Baguio. Attendees were also Homestaffs of the Indonesian Embassy, and also some Filipino invitees. The seminar was free and participants got free snack, lunch and a certificate. It started at 9am and ended up 4pm. It went pretty smooth and I am definite that this seminar enlightened all of us on how to be a good leader and how to do career management. I’m personally impressed with the 2nd speaker, Nicasio F. Rollan III for his lecture about Leadership.

Congratulations for all the committees of the seminar, we just did it…!!! Now, lets prepare for another new coming activities.

ThAnK yOu Ms. AbAntO…

I just went to school this afternoon to meet Ms. Agnes and get my course card in Media Research and Thesis Proposal Writing class taught by Ms. Flordeliz Abanto. I got a 3.5, which is the highest grade that I could get in the course. I was able to get it several times already. But, for this class, I didn’t really expect it, but I did try my best to do it, and consult her every after class. I’m glad when she told me that I was hardworking and I performed well. Thank you Ms. Abanto, you’ve helped me a lot and that you are like a ray of light when I thought that I couldn’t get through this class. I have also learned from her that the biggest fear of all is the fear itself that we have in mind.

I felt that this class is really a crucial one, because I would know whether my thesis proposal topic would be doable. It is “A Textual Analysis on the Portrayal of Indonesian Women in Indonesian Films, (During and Post Megawati Soekarnoputri’s Period 2001-2006)”. Moreover, I would only deal with thesis writing of that topic for the rest of the course after the comprehensive exam.

I hope you are reading this, I want you to know how much I really appreciate your guidance throughout the term.

Happy summer in Cebu!

Last but not the least, I’m happy that I was able to manage my time very well, doing school assignments, work, my activities in PPMIP (the Indonesian Students Association in the Philippines), doing house chores, and even doing my hobbies, like chatting and blogging. Above all, I want to thank my family, and God, Allah S.W.T. for giving me the strength. (did I just win an Oscar? I sounded like one ;p)

I will always remember my motto in life: “Do your best, and God will do the rest”.

THE POWER OF LOSING CONTROL
Finding Strength, Meaning and Happiness in
an Out-of-Control World

Author: Joe Caruso

I just bought this book, in National Book Store Megamall Yesterday, Tuesday April 4th 2006. I went there right after work, coz I was assigned to buy seminar supplies such as name tags, art paper for the certificates, and pencils. Then I came across books on sale... so I didn't give a second thought to see all the books displayed. This book caught my eyes, I just read the front, back cover and glanced at the introduction. I immediately decide to buy it. Real definite that this book will give me some good insights about life. I'll submit my revised thesis proposal today, so thought of buying it to fill up my summer vacation from school with reading, reading and reading. Haven't read the book yet, but you might also be interested, here is an introduction about the book from www.penguin.com:

“When we learn to stop wasting our precious energy on what we can’t control, we can begin to discover the power of losing control.”

At the age of eighteen, Joe Caruso was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Certain that he was living on borrowed time, he embarked on a quest to understand the meaning of life, which led to the discovery of timeless truths about our spiritual and emotional lives. In The Power of Losing Control, he shares the insights that helped him not only to survive, but also to become an internationally acclaimed speaker whose seminars have literally transformed people’s lives.

Caruso takes readers step-by-step through amazing techniques and strategies that show us how to stop wasting valuable time and energy, trust in something greater than ourselves, and embrace.

Hmm... I will read this book as soon as I'm done with my top priorities. And next, I will also start to paint again. I'm sure that my canvas, my oil colours, my palette and my paint brushes are waiting for me to use 'em. Haven't been painting for such a long time. For me, it's just the right way to relax my mind, else than blogging, chatting, dancing and sleeping... hehehe...

I'm also thinking of having a vacation out of town, maybe to Santiago City, Isabela, somewhere in the North of the Philippines. I hope Niar will not change her mind to let me join, and I hope Takeuchi San will allow me to take 1 week vacation leave from work. I promise, I will do lots of overtime at work, before and after my VL, no matter what. Because she is kind enough to decrease my target for this month. And I will not waste this chance.

Aight... all of the above would be my Summer's Resolution, instead of "New Year's Resolution". So much things need to be done.

aPRiL FoOL… I wAs aBoUt tO hAvE a BoYfRiEnD AnD a HuSbANd PeRHaPs… aNd sEaSidE aGaiN...

Saturday, April 1, I was supposed to make all of my work done, regarding the “Leadership Skill and Career Building’ seminar’s invitation that I need to send to all PPMIP Chapters. But as Anis was busy her self using the PC doing the jobs assigned to her, making Banner, Poster, Certificate and Name tags, I had to postpone my own assignment. So it was already late in afternoon when I went online and started to send invitations thru email.

Victim # 1: FELIX

Then suddenly Felix PM me… saying that too bad I didn’t join last night’s gimmick hehehe… so then we talked about school, etc. at the same time, I was chatting with one of my friends, MC, a Filipina, she used to study in Gandhi- Jakarta. I was about to get fooled when she told me that she was a bisexual, and that she liked me. I was like… uhmmm… but then I realized that.. it’s April 1…!!! Hahaha… too bad her trick didn’t flow that smooth. So I suddenly had this idea to fool Felix… the point is that I told him that I liked him… and that I wanna be his girlfriend. Then he asked, “since when?” right after, he called me in no time, just to make sure that I was really the one who chatted with him. Worried that JJ or Anis were the ones who fooled him. So we talked over the phone… and I asked him again if I could be his GF, and he said, “ yeah that’s possible, since when did you like me, Sar?” (in a serious tone) I burst out in laughter… and told him “HAPPY APRIL FOOL’S DAY FELIX… hahahaha….” Hmm I was satisfied with my trick… Sorry yah lix… hihihi… then after all that foolishness, we talked about work, visa, etc. Before we ended up the conversation, I apologized to him, but I regret when I told him that it was April Fool… bcoz if I didn’t, I would already have a boyfriend by now. Hahaha… just kidding. I told Felix that it’ll be my first time in a life time to ask a guy out. Hahaha… it might also be the first and the last. You can see our YM personal message in the comments section. I already asked his permission to post it… so just take a look at it…

Victim # 2: ALWI

Then comes Alwi… my ultimate chatmate.. this is even worse.. I PM him… and out of nowhere… I told him that “I wanna marry you”, then he was silent for few minutes, so I had to wake him up hehehe… bet he was kinda shocked when I told him that… he even tried to change topics… but I insisted him to discuss it.. and he minds, because he said that “this is not a kind of thing I discuss over messenger”… but I still want him to let us discuss it over. He also asked if I have a webcam, but fortunately I don’t hehehe… he said he wanted to see my eyes.. to make sure I’m sober. After some conversations… it goes…
om_alwi: ancrot tanggal satu april :))
sari_ayank: HUAHUAHUAHUAHUHAHAUHUAA
sari_ayank: GOTCHA!!!!
hahahahahaha…. I gottcha Alwi… haduh haduh.. sorry.. (mudah2an aku ngga kualat sama orang tua hahaha…) so… for details, just see our long conversations in the comments section. I also asked Alwi’s permission to post our conversation here.

I don’t want one of them to come to me one day and sue me for posting that personal message over my Blog HA… HA… HA… I’m so happy today…

Saturday evening, Sandhi texted me if I would like to watch Ice Age 2, I agreed, but told him that I have to finish my work first. I had some problems attaching the file in hotmail. So it took me several hours to get it done. I uninstalled instafinder, which turned out to be the cause of the problem. I finished sending the invitations at around 1030 in the evening. And Ice Age 2 is already showing. So I called Sandhi and told him to just cancel it.

up-left corner: Seaside, inside that is a market
up-right corner: Robbie's Seafood Restaurant
Bottom-left corner: Inside the Market
Bottom-right corner: Me holding a shrimp

Instead, I told him that Anis, JJ and I are planning to go to Seaside this midnight. So he agreed and he’ll just see us there. Andri Crispy and Seto fetched us in Mervin, so the 5 of us went to Seaside all together. As soon as we arrived, the market was almost closed. But we were still on time to buy oysters, shrimps, tilapia fish, squids, and scallops 1kg each. So then when asked the waiter to cook them.

The right-bottom pic is my plateful dinner... I actually ate more than that hahaha

We chose to stay outdoor. And as you can see in the pictures… those are all the foods that we ate…. I felt like 8 months pregnant this time, because I don’t want to occupy my whole tummy with what I eat, otherwise I’ll feel like 9 months pregnant and that will make me having a hard time to walk. When we’re done eating, and I was about to enter the restaurant to wash my hands, Sandhi and Niar came, just to meet us and have a little chit-chat. Took some more pictures and went home.

Sari, Anis, JJ, Andri, Seto, Sandhi and Niar

I didn’t go right away to bed, instead I went online and I stayed until 2 PM on Sunday, the next day. I was busy doing bulletin boards in friendster. So after that, I slept for a few hours, took a bath, had dinner… then Andri Crispy dropped by to my house after he played badminton, he planned to see the poster for our seminar. I was also texting with Aang and here I am again. I was supposed to resend some more invitations and look for some readings for my theoretical framework. But instead, I’m now writing my blog. But hey… I’ll still be responsible in doing my assignments. I’ll do it now.

TaKeUcHi sAn’s BiRtHdAy aNd
MaTroShka fRoM cOcO

Up: Fernando, Sari, Takeuchi San, Mami Nan, Thao
Down: Sari & Takeuchi San

Here I go again. My boss, Takeuchi San had her Birthday last Thursday, March 16th. I didn’t know that it was her birthday until most of the people in the office greeted her. Her birthday was not posted in the announcement board. So I just greeted her that day, coz I don’t have anything to give her, not even a single card. So on the next week, which was on Tuesday, I decided to go to Megamall before work, to buy her something. I went to Marks and Spencer and bought her M&S hand & body lotion and talc. I gave it to her as soon as I arrived in the office on Tuesday. Well, she seems to like it. I hope so.

The Birthday Cake and the Birthday Woman

We then arranged to make a small gathering and have lunch together for her celebration, the week after. The lunch was planned to be held on Friday March 24th, but for some reasons, it was postponed to Saturday March 25th. Thank God, so that I could join. Because I filed a VL on Thursday, to make my school work, I decided to make it up on Saturday. So… right timing.

Saturday March 25th, the group planned to give a B’day gift, so I, together with Mami Nan, Jurai and Namthip went to Megamall to buy red wine & cookies in Marks and Spencer. We then headed towards Podium and then had lunch in Banana Leaf. The group was incomplete. We are actually 11 in the foreign group but only 7 of us attended. Mami Nansoe (Myanmar), Thao(Vietnam), Jurai, Namthip (Thailand), and Me, JJ, Fernando (Indonesia). I’m not that aware of whose idea was it to set up this lunch… but one thing is for sure, each one of us agreed to shoulder the expenses equally. So we had ruti canai. tom yam kung, sate ayam, mie goreng, for lunch. We then light the candle on the cake that JJ bought and ate the mango cake for dessert. It turned out that she grabbed the bill from the waiter. So… Takeuchi San paid for everything!!! Hahaha… we were happy, but on the other side, we feel ashamed hehehe.. but that’s ok, at least everything went well. I felt like 9 months pregnant, because I suddenly felt so big and heavy hehehe… coz that was Indonesian food, but It was not even close to the real traditional Indonesian taste. But that’s still food, and I eat food. Hehehe…

Matroshka from Coco.

Next is that…sometime last week, I got Matroshka from Coco in Kiev. He sent it via Ibu Alex, the wife of the Ambassador of Indonesia in Kiev, Ukraine. Hmm… Thanks yah Co… Then I asked Coco if he wants anything from Manila, and said he wants OPM CD.. so.. I might look for OPM CD one of these days… (kesian bgt deh loe Co, kangen bgt sama Manila ya? Hahaha). Hmm but I still doubt if I can ask Ibu Alex to give the CD to Coco tho… well lets see later
